Later on, the children’s mother and manager, Sonja Norwood, claimed that in 2004, she had given Kim Kardashian permission to make “one and only one” purchase on her American Express credit card, but that Kim Kardashian, along with her sisters Khloé and Kourtney, had nevertheless racked up over $120,000 in unauthorized charges to that card.
Sonja Norwood was the one who initially authorized Kim Kardashian to make the purchase. Norwood also claimed that the majority of the charges were due to purchases that were made at Kardashian’s family-owned boutique in 2006 and 2007, after Kardashian was no longer employed by Norwood’s daughter. Norwood made this claim after Kardashian had left the position she held with Norwood’s daughter.
Norwood also claimed that she did not press criminal charges because her children asked her to refrain from doing so. Instead, she said that she confronted Kardashian directly with her allegations, and that Kardashian subsequently apologized and promised to pay back the money.
In 2008, Norwood filed a lawsuit after not receiving any compensation as promised by the defendant. Kardashian has categorically refuted all of these claims. Reportedly, in 2009, the parties were able to reach an agreement over a confidential settlement, which led to the dismissal of the lawsuit.

Kardashian married NBA player Kris Humphries, then of the New Jersey Nets, in May 2011, after dating him since October 2010. A two-part TV special depicting the wedding preparations and ceremony broadcast on E! in early October 2011, amid what The Washington Post called a “media blitz” surrounding the wedding. On October 31, after 72 days of marriage, she filed for divorce from Humphries, alleging irreconcilable differences.
Several news agencies speculated that Kardashian’s marriage to Humphries was nothing more than a publicity gimmick to boost the Kardashian family’s brand and subsequent television projects. Jonathan Jaxson, claiming to be her former publicist, also stated that her brief marriage was staged and a plan to create money. Kardashian sued Jaxson, claiming that his claims were false, and the case was later settled, with Jaxson apologizing. They both decided in court in April 2021 to break their marriage owing to “irreconcilable disagreements” and to share custody of their four children. They both agreed that neither of them requires spousal support. In February 2022, Kardashian filed a complaint with the Los Angeles Superior Court, requesting that the divorce proceedings from West be expedited, claiming that West was attempting to delay the proceedings and that “Mr. West, by his actions, has made it clear that he does not accept that the parties’ marital relationship is over.” On March 2, 2022, Kardashian was legally declared single. This permitted her to drop the “West” from her formal surname. On November 29, 2022, their divorce was formalized.

Forbes said in 2015 that she had “earned more this year than ever as her profits nearly doubled to $53 million from $28 million in 2014,” and that she “had monetized stardom better than any other.” Much of her revenue comes from wholesale earnings from the Sears line, the Kardashian Kollection ($600 million in 2013), the Kardashian Beauty cosmetics line, Kardashian-branded tanning products, the boutique-line DASH, and sponsored social media posts at $300,000-500,000 per post. Kim Kardashian was robbed at gunpoint in the apartment where she was staying on October 2, 2016, while visiting Paris Fashion Week. Five people posed as police officers handcuffed and gagged her before stealing $10 million in valuables. The burglars gained access to her home by frightening the concierge. They broke into Kardashian’s room and put a gun to her head while tying her wrists and legs and putting duct tape around her mouth as a gag. Kardashian was physically uninjured and reportedly begged for her life after being placed in the bathtub. She was able to wiggle her hands free from the plastic ties that were wrapped around her wrists and scream for aid. The robbers escaped. Following the heist, filming for the next season of Keeping Up With the Kardashians was put “on hold indefinitely” on October 6, 2016.
Following the announcement of the robbery, some critics expressed doubts about whether it was manufactured or not, with some drawing comparisons to Olympic swimmer Ryan Lochte’s recent bogus robbery claim. On October 10, 2016, a video of Kardashian shortly after the incident was released, as police began their investigation. In the video, she is shown using the mobile phone she had reported stolen, and it lacks any of the markings she claimed from being bound by her kidnappers, raising further questions about whether the events were manufactured. In response, Kardashian filed lawsuits the next day against various media outlets and obtained a gag order to have the footage deleted from any publications since it was part of an ongoing police investigation. On October 25, 2016, Kardashian abandoned the complaint, leading further allegations that the heist was a publicity stunt. On October 26, production on Keeping Up with the Kardashians restarted.
On January 9, 2017, French police detained 17 people of interest in the robbery investigation for interrogation. Later that year, 16 persons were detained for alleged involvement. In 2020, it was disclosed that French prosecutors planned to charge 12 of the individuals. The suspects who reportedly entered her room were of or around retirement age, and the press dubbed them the “Grandpa Robbers.” The accused were still awaiting trial in 2021, with at least one of the five who entered Kardashian’s room apparently planning to plead not guilty to the allegations.
